A combination of theory and practice, technology and creativity, teaching and real-life challenges
this is exactly what the 3D RoboLab 14HB 2025 competition offered, which took place at the Faculty of Applied Informatics at UTB in Zlín on May 10, 2025. During a 14-hour intensive marathon, 17 students immersed themselves in the world of applied robotics, machine vision, programming, design, and 3D printing.
Six teams participated, including two international teams, working at ten specialized workstations..
The individual workstations were equipped with:
✔️industrial and collaborative robots from ABB and STÄUBLI,
✔️modern camera systems such as cameras from Basler AG, Omron Industrial Automation Europe, KEYENCE CORPORATION, Hikrobot, or In-Sight from Cognex Corporation and mvBlueGEMINI from Balluff EMEA...
✔️and there were also 3D printers and software such as Solidworks, Python, RobotStudio, and Vision Master.
The competition tasks tested the students' knowledge in the fields of industrial robotics, machine vision, programming, and design. The teams created applications for robots, established communication with cameras, and designed algorithms for recognizing and sorting objects.
In addition, they solved tasks in Python, such as automatically solving logic puzzles, and designed mechanisms for 3D printing. The assignment thus offered participants a comprehensive combination of theory and practice
The main organizer of the event was the Center for Security, Information and Communication Technologies (CEBIA-Tech). Smart View, together with ABB, participated in the organization, and a big thank you also goes to the other partners who supported this idea and contributed to its implementation.
The aim of the competition was to show students what the real world of robotics and industrial vision looks like. All participants had the opportunity to get hands-on experience with technologies that are commonly seen in manufacturing or development.
